Course objectives
Seminar absolvent will able to expert classification and description of archaeological findings of Central Europian Stone Age (from Paleolithic to end of Eneolithic). It includes frame datation, cultural, technological and functional determination.
Syllabus
  • 1. Seminar introduction: types of material culture, raw-materials in Stone Age, methods of expert analysis;
  • 2. Introduction of expert analysis of chipped stone industry. Material culture of Low and Middle Paleolithic;
  • 3. Material culture of Early Upper Paleolithic (szeletien, bohunicien, aurignacien) and Upper Paleolithic (pavlovien/gravettien a magdalenien). Chipped stone industry, Bone and antler industry, art, decoration;
  • 4. Material culture of Late Paleolithic and Mesolithic;
  • 5. Organic material culture in case study of neolithic findings;
  • 6. Methods of expert analysis of ceramics;
  • 7. Methods of expert analysis of macrolithic industry, Bone and Antler industry;
  • 8. Morphological and technological features of chipped stone industry of Neolthic and Eneolithic;
  • 9. Material culture of Early and Middle Neolithic - ceramics, technical ceramics, stone industry, bone and antler industry, art, decoration;
  • 10. Lengyel Material culture - Late Neolithic and Early Eneolithic. Ceramics, technical ceramics, stone industry, bone and antler industry, art, decoration;
  • 11. Morphological and technological features of ceramics of Early and Middle Eneolithic;
  • 12. Morphological and technological features of Late Eneolithic material culture. Ceramics, technical ceramics, stone industry, bone and antler industry, copper findings;
