Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to offer an introduction to text Linguistics.
Learning outcomes
Student who successfully complete the course are acquainted with: a) basic terminology in the field of Translation studies, b) main principles of translation practice.
Syllabus
  • a) Complex text analysis; b) Coreferrential relations - text coherence a cohesion. c) Thematic Sequence and its Importance for the Interpretation of Texts. d) The function of Conectors in sentences. e) Functional Sentence Perspective and its importance. Main topics: - social science texts - natural sciences - mass-media -literature: fiction

Teaching methods
Introductory classes offer specialized terminology with an overview of basic concepts and their definitions. In the seminars students are expected to make use of theoretical knowledge, while working with different sort of texts. Thorough previous preparation is requiered.
Assessment methods
Regular homework required. Students should meet assignment submission deadlines. Final exam: written test (success rate: 70%).
