Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to familiarize students with the basic principles of scientific work - how to approach the subject of their research, how to define research questions, how to read specialistic literature, how to correctly quote it and how to use it for ones own writing.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Define the topic and the research questions of their theoretical work;
- Process the annotation and hypothesis of their academic text;
- Apply quotation rules from various sources of literature (book, video, almanac, etc.) according to the rules of the ÚHV;
- Practice critical arguments in academic discussions.
Syllabus
  • - Course target - organization of the semester.
  • - Definition of the topic of work and research questions: annotation, hypothesis.
  • - Discussion over the themes of the thesis: discussion of emerging annotations and hypotheses.
  • - Architecture of the theoretical work (subject - method - research objective).
  • - Architecture of work (work with sources and literature, correct bibliography, citation standards).
  • - Discussion about the emerging work.
  • - Citation standards vs. Recycling of Foreign Thoughts - how to properly quote (text, art work, video, music, etc.). Theory.
  • - Citation standards vs. Recycling of Foreign Thoughts - how to properly quote (text, art work, video, music, etc.). Practical demonstrations.
  • - Discussions and outcomes of students emerging texts during the lecture - a chapter of their theoretical text that verifies student´s understanding of the application of citation standards.
  • - Discussion about the emerging work.

Teaching methods
Teaching of basic principles of academic writing: bibliographic standards, work with resources and literature, structure of work, principles of argumentation and critical thinking.
Assessment methods
To obtain the credits, students are asked to:
a) In the course of the semester present a part of their theoretical text (short chapter from the topic of the thesis) which verifies the students' understanding of the application of the citation standards. The deadline for submission will be the determined at the beginning of the semester. Text range 3,600 characters.
b) Until June 30 finalize and pass on a 18,000 characters long theoretical work (including blank spaces and excluding the list of resources).
c) Meeting attendance conditions (75%).
