Prerequisites
No specific courses are required. Basic knowledge of calculus is expected. Knowledge of economics is not necessary. Elemtary knowledge of English will be advantageous.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course provides an introduction to current topics in Economics. The goal is to provide an overview of methods of economic analysis: design of economic models, their solutions and interpretation of results. The course should provide knowledge of basic tools of economic modeling and teach students how to use them. Since the literature covering most of the topics is not available in Czech, study notes will be provided. Further details will be available from resources in English (published papers and chapters of books). Knowledge of these materials will not be required for the final test.
Syllabus
  • The course will provide an overview over these topics. Detail information will be available before the beginning of a semester.
  • 1. Introduction to Game Theory (Normal Form, Extensive Form). Games of complete and incomplete information and their solution concepts (Nash Equilibrium, Bayes Nash Equilibrium, backward induction, subgame perfection, sequential rationality).
  • 2. Repeated Games, Folk Theorem
  • 3. Rubenstein Bargaining, Nash Bargaining
  • 4. Models of asymmetry of information (Principal Agent Problems)
  • 5. Models of imperfect competition (Bertrand, Cournot, Stackelberg)
  • 6. Products differentiation (Horizontal, Vertical)
  • 7 Theory of Information, Information Cascades
