Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand the basic theory of thematic cartography, composition skeleton and structure thematical maps, use principles of legend making, making and use thematic maps and atlases.
Syllabus
  • Lectures: 1. Definition of thematical map, different groups of thematical maps 2. Mandatory nad optional parts of thematical maps 3. Content of thematical maps 4. Scales 5. Quantitative data in thematical maps 6. Qualitative data in thematical maps 7. Quantitative data displaying 8. Map concepts - purpose, name and content of thematical maps 9. Construction of different thematical maps types 10. Legend of the map, its principles and creation 11. Cartogram in Cartography 12. Selected production of thematical maps and atlases 13. Evaluation of thematical maps Practice 1. Mental thematical maps 2. Map of selected region 3. ArcMap - coordinate systems, geoprocessing, selection 4. Composition of thematical maps 5.
