Course objectives
The aim of the course is to translate to PhD students the examples of applications of genomic and proteomic approaches to solve current research projects. The lectures will be given by the heads of research teams of these projects and their guests from collaborating institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad. Main objectives of the course can be summarized as follows: to get acquainted with recent research projects solved using genomic and proteomic approaches; to teach students how to discuss scientific projects, their individual aspects (methodology, aims)and, finally, to formulate their own research projects.
Syllabus
  • The list of lectures and speakers will be updated based on arrangments with invited guests. Genomic approaches applied in example projects of basic research
  • Genomic approaches in biomedicine (sample project)
  • Proteomic approaches in example projects of basic research
  • Proteomics in biomedicine
  • Genomics and proteomics in different model systems
  • Preparation of grant proposal
Literature
  • Publikace přednášejících – dostupné na IS MU buď přímo, nebo v úložišti studijních &materiálů předmětu
Assessment methods
Final exam in the form of colloquium. Students elaborate a brief written project proposal which is then critically discussed.
