Prerequisites
C7780 Inorganic Materials Chemistry
Knowledge level of the basic courses of general, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course give the basic overview of the most important synthetic methods currently used for the synthesis of metallic and nonmetallic inorganic materials. High-temperature solid state reactions, solid-gas reactions, coprecipitation method, hydrothermal synthesis, supramolecular templating, and sonochemical method are introduced. Furthermore, basic characterization techniques are applied to the prepared samples, such as X-ray powder diffraction, analysis of the specific surface area by the BET method, thermal analysis, solid state NMR spectroscopy, optical and scanning electron microscopy, and testing of mechanical properties of solids.
