Course objectives
A series of lectures on deeper questions and topics from the areas of mathematics that are included in the high-school mathematics programe. The course teaches skills and techniques that are useful especially when preparing talented, mathematically gifted pupils.
Syllabus
  • Types of mathematical proofs and their examples in different areas of mathematics. Principle of mathemtical induction. Pigeonhole principle. Continued fractions - theory and applications. Symmetry in algebra and geometry. Less known elements and properties of general triangles. Geometry of masses: center of gravity and momentum of inertia. Classic algebraic inequalities and their applications. Introduction to the theory of functional equations. Vector methods in geometry.
