Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the archaeobotanical method of macroremain analysis and with the content of archaeobotanist's work.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introductory lesson; basic stereomicroscope operation; extraction of botanical material from archaeological sample; introduction to cereals
  • 2. Identification and quantification of cereal chaff (recent and archaeological material)
  • 3. Identification and quantification of cereal grains (recent and archaeological material)
  • 4. Identification and quantification of arable species (pulses, fibre and oil crops, fruits and nuts)
  • 5. Identification and quantification of wild plant seeds
  • 6. Analysis of archaeobotanical sample from the site Těšetice-Kyjovice "Sutny"

Participation in laboratory practice (absence from 1 practice is allowed) and filling tests in the e-learning (simple tests on subjects studied at the laboratory practice, 80% of right answers are needed for passing the course).
