Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
  • Special Biology (programme PřF, B-EXB)
  • Special Biology (programme PřF, B-EXB, specialization Experimental Biology of Animals and Immunology)
  • Special Biology (programme PřF, B-EXB, specialization Mikrobiology a Molecular Biotechnology)
Course objectives
The exercise follows the basic lecture on Immunology. The main focus is theoretical and practical acquaintance with the methods used in immunological research and clinical laboratory practice. Taught methodologies belong to basic immunological methods. Emphasis is placed on students' own practical activities and the acquisition of good laboratory practice.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- describe the structure and function of immune organs and cells
- know the principles of basic immunological methods and will be able to use them in research
- describe the advantages and disadvantages of immunological methods and apply them appropriately
- perform a basic blood sample analysis
- perform and evaluate measurements of major immune parameters
Syllabus
  • 1. Histology of immune organs 2. Cells involved in the immune system 3. Determination of antimicrobial activity: lysozyme by method of radial diffusion 4. Phagocyte activity: test of ingestion of MSH particles 5. Phagocyte activity: chemiluminescent determination 6. Lymphocyte isolation: method of gradient sedimentation 7. Hemagglutination methods: determination of blood groups 8. Chemiluminescent methods in evaluation of complement activity 9. Determination of antibodies: immuno-diffusion and turbidimetry 10. Proteins in blood serum: immunoelectrophoresis
