Course objectives
Main objectives are making students acquainted to problematics of electromagnetic waves on the boundary between classical circuit theory and optics; understanding the Maxwell equations and their wave solution; understanding the role of complex quantities in electromagnetic theory; delineating major differences between lumped element and distributed element circuits; analyzing the physical base of many contemporary high frequency devices: antenna, radio, television, radar, mobile phone, maser, microwave oven
Learning outcomes
Student will be able
- to discern between low-frequency and high-frequency circuits;
- to describe various types of electromagnetic waves besides the most common TEM waves;
- to understand the function of many everyday hf devices - radio, phone, GPS, microwave oven, etc.
