Course objectives
The goal of the course is to gain information about immune response during viral infections. The lectures contain also information about methodical procedures for immune mechanisms assessment and abut vaccines against viral infections.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able describe and discuss following topics: Immune processes during viral infections, Methods for immune mechanisms description, Vaccines against viruses.
Syllabus
  • Immune mechanisms (summary introduction);
  • Recognition of viruses on molecular level (extracellular and intracellular mechanisms of recognition);
  • Cell-intrinsic defences (role of apoptosis, necrosis, autophagy);
  • Interferon system and antiviral action; Innate immunity and viral infection;
  • Adaptive immunity (cell mediated) and viral infection;
  • Adaptive immunity (humoral) and viral infection;
  • Selected methods for description of immune response against viral infection;
  • Modulation of immune response by viruses;
  • Vaccines against viruses;
  • Tick borne encephalitis virus - study of immune response and development of vaccines.
