Abstract: Diploma thesis deals with an aesthetic dimension of the work of Italian painter of the cinquecento and seicento era Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. We strive to find aesthetic universals of the painter's work which are based on descriptions of historical and cultural context and on study of selection of his work.
