A translation of idioms in a literary text, applied to a literary work of Patrick Süskind "Perfume – The Story of a Murderer"

Übersetzung der Phraseologismen im künstlerischen Text: Dargestellt am Werk von Patrick Süskind „Das Parfum - Die Geschichte eines Mörders

Abstract: V tejto diplomovej práci sa zaoberám prekladom frazeologizmov v literárnom texte. Rozhodla som sa skúmať dielo Patricka Süskinda “ Parfum (Príbeh vraha)” Diplomová práca je rozdelená na dve hlavné časti. Prvá je teoretická časť, kde opisujem teoretické základy. V prvej kapitole je charakterizovaná frazeológia ako veda a jej historický vývoj. Druhá kapitola sa zaoberá charakteristickými znakmi frazeologizmov. V ďalších kapitolách je predstavená klasifikácia frazeologizmov a tiež kontrastivna frazeológia. Teoretická časť je zakončená kapitolami: Frazeologizmy a literárny text a Frazeológia a preklad. Druhá hlavná časť je zameraná prakticky a začína analýzou knihy. V ďalšej kapitole som analyzovala niektoré zaujímavé frazeologizmy a slovne spojenia z nemeckého originálu, slovenského, českého a anglického prekladu. V závere sú zhrnuté zistenia vyplývajúce z výskumu. Pre lepšiu ilustráciu sú zistenia znázornené aj v troch tabuľkách a troch grafoch. V prílohe sa nachádzajú aj iné frazeologizmy, ktoré nie sú zahrnuté v analýze. …moreless

Abstract: This dissertation deals with a translation of idioms in a literary text. I have decided to investigate the work of Patrick Süskind “Perfume – The Story of a Murderer” My diploma work is divided into two main parts. First comes the theoretical part, where we can find the theoretical basis. In the first chapter is characterized Phraseology as a science and its history. The second chapter concerns with characteristic marks of idioms. In the next chapters is introduced classification of idioms and contrastive phraseology. The theoretical part is finished with chapters: Idioms in a literary text and Phraseology and translation. The second main part is practically oriented and begins with an analysis of the book. In the next chapter are analyzed some interesting idioms, phrases and collocations from the German original and their translations into Slovak, Czech and English. In the conclusion are summarized findings of the research. For better illustration are the findings drawn also three tables and three graphs. In the supplement you can find some more idioms and phrases. …moreless
