Because of the current epidemiological situation concerning the SARS-CoV-2, the teaching of several subjects has to be moved into an online environment. It also affects this subject which officially consists of lectures. 

E-learning course for both Czech and English-speaking students of General medicine was introduced and tested at our department the last semester, and it allows us to use our experiences to extend it to other study programmes.

Each week of the study course may include several activities:

• Teaching materials
• Recordings of seminars 
• Demonstrations of patients
• Online lectures
• Questions and answers
• Final exam in the form of test

1 Overview of online teaching tools

This course uses several online tools for online teaching: Information System (IS) of the Masaryk University, and applications in Office 365 Suite - Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Stream.

IS is used for this online interactive syllabus, which is a portal with links to other teaching materials, and test.

MS Teams is used for online lectures and for contacting the teacher. MS Stream is a corporate equivalent of YouTube and will be used for seminar recordings and patient demonstrations.

2 Timetable

Each lesson of this online course becomes available on Thursday and is based on a single topic. Each Thursday, another chapter of this online syllabus will become available for the students. The most important part of the course is online lectures which take part on Thursdays between 10:00 - 12:40. Other teaching materials are open for the whole week.

3 Teaching methods

3.1 Teaching materials

Presentations for lectures and reading materials are available in IS. This online interactive syllabus includes links to these materials for each week of the course. However, be aware that available presentations were meant to be used during oral lectures and their usage as reading materials should be supplemented with online classes.

3.2 Recordings of seminars

Students can review recordings of the seminars which were held for the General medicine students last year. These recordings are accessible through MS Stream.

3.3 Demonstrations

Case presentations are substituted by recordings of interviews with patients and video presentations. Both are available either through MS Stream or YouTube.

3.4 Online lectures

Online lectures are the central part of this e-learning course. They substitute standard classes and allow students to interact with teachers. Online lessons will take place in MS Teams team Psychiatrie - Psychiatry in the channel "Bc FYZIa AJ podzim 2020". Online lectures take place each Thursday for six weeks, starting with 8th November, between 11:00 - 12:40. Schedule of online classes for students of all study programmes are also summarized in Google Calendar.

3.5 Questions and answers

Students can ask questions during online classes, but they can also use MS Teams to ask questions outside of online lectures. For this purpose, students can use a chat in the channel "Bc FYZIa AJ podzim 2020" in MS Teams team Psychiatrie - Psychiatry.

3.6 Test

The final evaluation will take place in the form of the multiple-choice test in ROPOT system of the IS. This test consists of 10 questions; each question has only a single correct answer. To pass the test, students have to correctly answer at least half of the items (it means six). The test will be available on the selected dates between 11 - 18 o'clock. Students will have 30 minutes to go through the evaluation. Dates of the test will be announced in IS.
