Course objectives
At the end of the course students will have the basic knowledge about the biochemical processes in the human body.
Syllabus
  • Introductory information. Solutions, concentration calculations, electrolytes, osmotic pressure. Acids and bases, buffers, buffers in the body. Selected organic compounds and their reactions. Saccharides, monosaccharides, polysaccharides. Fatty acids, triacylglycerols, phospholipids, cholesterol, bile acids, calciols. Amino acids, proteins, enzymes. Nucleotides, nucleis acis, replication, transcription, translation. Metabolism of nutrient, citrate cycle, respiratory chain. Metabolism of saccharides, lipides, and amino acids. Nerv cells, Hormones, Neurotransmiters, Receptors. Biochemistry of vision, liver, muscles, connective tissues, Biochemistry of kidneys - water and ions in the body, urine. Biochemistry of blood - hemoglobin, bilirubin, blood clotting.
