Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
The main objectives of the course are to become oriented in the environment of the chemical laboratory and its equipment, to acquire simple laboratory procedures and techniques, to practice common separation procedures and become familiar with handling standard laboratory machines, to teach students how to process measurement results into protocols, evaluate them and draw conclusions.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to
- understand the most important bioanalytical principles
- manipulate basic laboratory tools and equipment
- pipetting and weighing according to the principles of good laboratory practice
- prepare a solution at a given concentration
- measure the pH of solutions, titrate
- prepare a suitable buffer and determine its buffering capacity
- master basic separation techniques - filtration, dialysis, centrifugation, extraction, chromatography
- perform basic qualitative analysis - precipitation, colour reactions
- apply spectrophotometry for bioanalytical purposes
