The subaims are:
- to familiarize students with general principles of drug effects and drug processing in the organism
- to introduce several drug groups building on the knowledge of general pharmacological principles.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- describe and explain general mechanisms of drug action and their processing in the organism,
- characterize different routes of drug administration,
- describe, what could influence an effect of a drug
- describe the process of research and development of a new therapeutic agent from the beginning to entering the clinical practice
- classify both therapeutic, and adverse or toxic effects of drugs
- characterize specific drug groups mentioned in the course syllabus with the emphasis on therapeutic and adverse effects and possible drug interactions
Syllabus
  • 1. General pharmacological terms; Classification of drugs; Pharmacodynamics; Pharmacokinetics 2. Research and development of new drugs; Drug adverse effects; Factors affecting the drug's effect. 3. Vegetative nervous system; Corticosteroids 4. X-ray contrast agents; Radiopharmaceuticals

Teaching methods
The curriculum enables attendance at lectures from teachers of pharmacology. Attendance in the lectures is not obligatory, but it is recommended.
Assessment methods
Students have to pass the exam: the final multiple-choice test on PC. Only 1 correct answer is possible to each question. The test contains 20 questions. One point is granted for each correctly answered question. The summary of the score obtained is evaluated as follows: mark A = 18-20; B = 16-17; C = 14-15; D = 12-13; E = 11; F = 10 and less points.
