Course objectives
Climate, social and sociological changes, together with the popularity of traveling to exotic regions and population migration, present global epidemiological risks and require the anchoring of epidemiological knowledge to all health professionals, specialists and positions. The introduction of community infections into healthcare facilities poses a significant threat to both patients and healthcare professionals. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of epidemiology and the current epidemiological situation. The course presents a comprehensive overview of the most common infections, their prevention and repressive measures.
The next chapter is the issue of healthcare associated infections, which is discussed in detail, including current data and trends.
Last but not least, attention is paid to vaccination, its importance and current possibilities in the prevention and prophylaxis of infections.
Learning outcomes
The student after completing the course will be able to:
- understand and explain the epidemic process and factors affecting the transmission of infections;
- use information on the current epidemiological situation in the provision of preventive anti-epidemic measures in the operation of the workplace and during individual medical interventions;
- understand the application of the principles of prevention of healthcare associated infections;
- apply legislative requirements when creating and maintaining hygiene principles in the workplace;
- argue about the effectiveness and safety of vaccination and its basic role in the fight against infections.
