Course objectives
- understanding the process of spreading the disease and the factors influencing the transmission of infections.
- understanding of the risks of transmission of infections in the provision of health care and orientation in the issue of infections associated with health care and their prevention.
- the ability of graduates to interpret and use information about the current epidemiological situation.
- independent preparation and provision of basic repressive anti-epidemic measures in the outbreak.
- ensuring anti-epidemic measures even in unusual epidemiological situations, eg in the event of a new virus mutation or the introduction of a highly contagious infection.
- understanding of vaccination issues and their importance, orientation in the current vaccination calendar and available vaccines.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course of the epidemiology of infectious diseases, the student will be able to understand and explain the process of spreading the disease and the factors influencing the transmission of infections.
He is able to use information about the current epidemiological situation.
He is able to create repressive anti-epidemic measures in securing outbreaks.
The graduate of the course is able to present reasoned decisions in the cumulative occurrence of known infectious diseases and on the basis of acquired knowledge to derive anti-epidemic measures even in unusual epidemiological situations such as new virus mutations or introduction of highly contagious infection.
He is able to interpret laboratory and clinical findings in relation to the risk of infection transmission.
The student has a basic overview of mandatory vaccination and available vaccines. He understands the meaning of vaccination and is able to interpret it towards the general public.

  • 1. Introduction to epidemiology. Disease spreading process. Preventive and repressive measures in focus. 2. Epidemiology of food infections 3. Epidemiology of viral hepatitis. 4. Epidemiology of HIV / AIDS 5. Epidemiology of respiratory infections. Eradikace varioly. 6. Hygienic conditions of operation of the medical facility. 7. Health-care associated infections; etiology, transmission, prevention. 8. Principles of hand washing and disinfection in healthcare. 9. Disinfection, sterilization. Storage and handling of medical devices, 10. Active immunization. Vaccination in the Czech Republic.
