Course objectives
Main objectives of otorhinolaryngologic course are to give information about applied anatomy and physiology of head and neck and to teach students basic principles of diagnosis and treatment of head and neck diseases and nursing care for these patients.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able after the subject graduation: control the applied anatomy of the head and neck, describe the basics of diagnostics, differential diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the ear and throat realize nursing care for these patients
Syllabus
  • Basic characteristic of otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery.Nursing care in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery and its specific aspects. Symptomatology, diagnostics and treatment in ear diseases.Differences in nursing care in otological problems, peri- and postoperative treatment. Diseases of nose and paranasal sinuses. Epistaxis and face injuries. First aid and nursing care after facial traumas and after rhinosurgery. Complex nursing care in cases of nasal bleeding. Intraorbital and intracranial complications, symptomatology and treatment. Diseases of pharynx and oral cavity - symptomatology, diagnostic algorithm and treatment. Special nursing care. Diseases of larynx and trachea. Endoscopic access in otorhinolaryngology. Basic nursing care during and after endoscopic procedures. Basic operations in otolaryngology. Pre-, peri- and postoperative treatment. Different aspects of nursing care.Postoperative complications and their treatment. Otorhinolaryngology in children. The most common ENT diseases in childhood. ENT surgery in children. Life threating conditions in childhood. Acute subglottic laryngitis and acute epiglottitis, differential diagnostics. Nursing care in ENT in children. Onkology otorhinolaryngology. The most frequent head and neck tumors, symptomatology,diagnostics and treatment. Differences in nursing care in head and neck cancer. Patient with tracheostomy. Social aspects of head and neck cancer. Urgent situations in otorhinolaryngology. First aid in head and neck injuries. Acute obstruction of airways, possible causes and symptoms. Airways management in acute suffocation. Tracheal intubation, koniotomy, tracheostomy. Indications and importance in urgent prehospital treatment. Nursing care for patients with tracheostomy. Type of cannulas, accessories. Complex and special nursing care. Social aspects of long-time tracheostomy.
