Course objectives
The goal of clinical internships is the ability to apply the nursing process to patients in psychiatric wards. Students will be able to: define the specifics of the nursing process in the psychiatric ward, identify the needs of the patients in the psychiatric ward, formulate the nursing problems of the patients in the psychiatric ward and to formulate nursing diagnoses, determine the nursing care plan of the patients in the psychiatric ward, evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care; nursing interventions, to evaluate the nursing care plan for patients in the psychiatric ward, to use nursing and medical documentation and to record changes in the status of patients according to the competencies of the students. During clinical internships, they get an overview of   mental illnesses, clinical manifestations, treatment methods (including biological treatments) and treatment of psychiatric patients. They will learn the principles of targeted communication with adult and childhood psychiatric patients.

Student will be able to:
to understand the specifics and organization of care in psychiatric wards
to understand basic diagnoses in psychiatry and their clinical manifestations
communicate with a psychiatric patient
to identify the needs of a psychiatric patient
to provide nursing care to a psychiatric patient.

  • First contact with a sick and clinically-controlled interview.
  • Investigational methods in psychiatry.
  • Basic mental functions and their disorders (perception, thinking).
  • Basic mental functions and their disorders (memory, intellect, emotion).
