fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
This course strengthens and extends the theoretical knowledge of single binocular vision and its treatment.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: • - Define the term single binocular vision • - Know all of its components and know what factors affect the correct development of a single binocular vision • - familiar with disorders of single binocular vision such as suppression, amblyopia and anomalous retinal correspondence • - to understand the term strabismus and to know its types and causes • - to have knowledge of diagnostic methods and possibilities of conservative treatment of strabismus - pleoptic and ortoptic - even on surgical treatment
Syllabus
  • Syllabus of the lectures:
  • Introductory lesson: introduction, collaboration between strabologist and orthoptist, ethics of non-medical profession
  • Heterophoria (esophoria, exophoria): Heterophoria (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthotic therapy) Esophoria (subj. problems, specifics of diagnostics, ortoptic analysis, therapy, education) Exophoria (subj. problems, specifics of diagnostics, orthoptic analysis, therapy, education)
  • Esotropia I. (alternans, monolateralis, congenital, accommodative, non-refractory): Acupuncture strabismus (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of therapy) Pseudostrabismus (ortoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthoptic therapy) Esotropia (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthoptic therapy)
  • Esotropia II. (consecutive, Lang's Syndrome (hyperfunction and DVD), microstabism, cyclic strabismus: Acute strabismus (symptoms, specific difficulties, orthoptic analysis, therapy, education) Less common forms of strabismus (specifics of diagnostics, orthoptic analysis, therapy, education)
  • Exotropia (basic, convergence insufficiency, excess divergence, differences in orthopedic therapy and div: Exotropia (orthotic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthotic therapy) Insufficiency of convergence (orthotic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthotic therapy) Excess of divergence (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthoptic therapy)
  • Amblyopia in strabismus (EF, ARK, examination, amblyopia therapy): Amblyopia with EF (pleoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of pleoptic therapy) Anomalous retinal correspondence (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthoptic therapy)
  • Incomitnt strabismus (nuclear, congenital, acquired palsy): incomitant strabismus (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of tortuous eruption) Congenital incomitant strabismus (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthotic therapy) Incomitant strabismus obtained (orthoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthoptic therapy) Pseudoparesis (ortoptic analysis, strategy, technique, timing, monitoring and risk of orthoptic therapy)
