Course objectives
To theoretically learn different diagnostic methods in strabology. To understand different outcomes from these examinations in connection to different pathologies.
Learning outcomes
Students will learn to work with fusion examination devices. They will be able to examine binocular balance and spatial vision. They will be able to examine the fixation of the macula and the resolution of the eye. They will learn to perform a masking test. They will also be able to perform screening examinations - such as the Hirschberg test.
Syllabus
  • Examination of the sensory component of fusion: Binocular balance tests (Bagolini, Worth, Polatest, D-Test, Irvin-Kubik, gray filter test), Steropse troposcope (Titmus test, TNO random dot, Randot, Lang, Frisby, Best, Dolman-Howart ) Examination of retinal correspondence (Herring-Bielschowski, Giessen, with red glass and prisms) Examination of fixation (visuskop, Heidinger, eye-hand coordination) Examination of distinctiveness. Quantitative and qualitative measurement of sensory fusion strength. Examination of the motor component of fusion: Examination of motility (orientation, Hess, Lancaster, Pisces, Weiss, objective methods - contact lens with induction coil) Examination of vergence (orientation, convergometer) Examination of eye position (Hirschberg method, Bruckner test, intermittent covering test) Angle measurement gamma (on perimeter, on troposcope) Measurement of tropical angle (millimeter ruler, alternating masking test with prisms, Krimski, Maddox cross, troposcope, perimeter, photographic methods) Examination of cyclorotations (Maddox double prism, Maddox plate) Examination of AC / A index. Examination of fusion reserve (troposcope, with prisms in space). Examination of accommodation performance (fliper) Examination of vergence performance (prismatic fliper according to Gracis) Examination of accommodation dynamics (infrared videometry) Examination of eye movement dynamics (Hirschberg videometry) Screening examinations: photographic methods (orthogon isotropic, eccentric photorefraction).
