Course objectives

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of general and special epidemiology focusing on the risks of transmission of food infections. An attention is paid especially to food intoxication, specific and nonspecific alimentary diseases including parasitic aetiology. A separate part is the issue of hospital hygiene and related legislation.
Learning outcomes

1. At the end of the course the students will be able to understand and to explain the process of spread of the infection and factors influencing transmission of infections.
2. Students will be able to use information about the current epidemiological situation.
3. Students will be able to create repressive anti-epidemic measures to provide outbreaks.
4. A graduate of the course is able to make reasoned decisions in the cumulative incidence of known infectious diseases.

  • 4- Epidemiological method of work. Surveillance of infections.
  • 5. Principles and importance of vaccination

  • 7. Principles of disinfection with a focus on catering operations
  • 8. Epidemiological risks of collected breast milk
  • 9. Epidemiologically risky foods
  • 10. Problems of decontamination of digestive endoscopes

Assessment methods

The course is completed by an exam in the form of a written test.
The test contains 20 questions with answers. Always the right one.
Scoring: Correct answer - 1 point. Incorrect or none - 0 points.
Evaluation: A -19-20 points, B - 17-18, C - 15-16, D - 13-14, E - 10-12, F - 9 and less.
