Course objectives
At the end of the course students will know what the principles of drug prescription are and what information is available in the Pharmacopoea, and how to make calculations of basic pharmacological parameters. They be able to recognize main drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum.

  • Lessons: 1st - 10th week - Monday 13.30- 14.45 (1,5 hr), Dpt. of pharmacology, UKB A19

  • 1st lesson (15.9.):Drug prescriptions: Elements of the drug prescription. Prescription of individualy prepared and ready made preparations. Legislation of drug prescription.Prescription of narcotic and psychotropic agents.
  • 2nd lesson (22.9.): Drug administration routes. Drug dosage forms.
  • 3rd lesson (29.9.): Pharmacology of peripheral nervous system I. Terminology, PNS neurotransmission, adrenergic and cholinergic receptors, agonists a antagonists. Parasympathotropic drugs.
  • 4th lesson (6.10.): Pharmacology of peripheral nervous system II. Sympathotropic drugs.
  • 5th lesson (13.10.): General anesthetics, myorelaxants.
  • 6th lesson (20.10.): Histamin and antihistamines. Antiasthmatics.
  • 7th lesson (27.10.): GIT active drugs> Antacids, antiemetics, andiarrhoics, laxatives, spasmolytics, prokinetics.
  • 8th lesson (3.11.): Therapy of polytrauma, shock and intoxications.
  • 9th lesson (10.11): Credit test. Case reports.
  • 10th lesson (17.11.): Public holiday. co-talks. Credits.

Teaching methods
According to schedule given students are expected to attend lectures and practicals provided by pharmacology teacher. Students are expected to play active role during a lesson and show interest in a topic. During lessons are also used video-programmes related to the topic stated in curriculum followed by discussion and specific reports prepared as homework and presented by students. There are also presented video-programmes to demonstrate manufacturing of drug dosage forms.
Assessment methods
The students have to prove the active knowledge of pharmacology. The students have to pass the final multiple-choice written revision test to get creditd. The students have to pass the final written multiple-choice test, in which students are asked to answer to multiple-choice questions (only 1 correct answer is possible to each question). The test contains 20 questions. One point is granted for each correctly answered question. The summary score obtained is evaluated. A criterion for receiving credits is the summary score higher or equal to the 60% points of the maximum score obtained.
