Course objectives
The course introduces basic sociological concepts and theories to students. It will focus primarily on sociology of medicine, social construction of health and illness.
Learning outcomes
Student:
will learn to think socially and become aware of the social overlaps of their own profession.
will focus on sociological concepts of roles, standards, conformities and deviations, disciplinarity through health care and the topic of medicinalization or the context of social stratification and population health .
will learn the basics of sociological research methodology, in a way that will be practically usable even when practicing.
Syllabus
  • What is sociology and what it does. What is sociology useful to non-sociologists.
  • What is society, demography. Where the end of nature and the world created by humans begins.
  • How social inequalities are related to the health of the population, the social role of health professionals.
  • The role and position of women and men in society, gender-based violence - violence against women. , the myth of beauty.
  • Family Sociology - Partnership, Parenthood. Family: space for intimacy, space for inequality.
  • Conformity and deviation: An example of rape and domestic violence.
  • Homoparentality, caring fathers, employed mothers.
  • Family crisis. transformation of motherhood in the historical and social context.
