Course objectives
The subject provides basic knowledge a skills about computer's network. Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand the network terminology; to connect personal computer to Internet; to use network services; to reduce risk of lost of data or secret information

  • 1. Network - data transfer, hardware, software
  • 2. Network - Internet. Types of nets, IP - network. Internet
  • 3. How to connect to the Internet
  • 4. Client x server architecture, Clients, Servers, Services
  • 5. Network services. FTP - file transfer, Sharing disks and printers, E-mail, services SMTP, POP3, IMAP. Other services, Remote desktop, telnet, talk, Skype
  • 6. Authorization, Authentication, Login, Password, Cryprography
  • 7. Security, reducing risk of networks transfer and communication
  • 8.E-health and telemedicine

Teaching methods
Theoretical lecture supplemented by practical examples and exams.
Assessment methods
The prerequisites of credit is presence of student on the lecture (4 hours) and written test.

Teacher's information
Teaching of the subject for foreign students takes place in the form of e-learning. Study materials will be available in the MUNI IS during March 2024. The course is completed with an electronic test, which is expected at the end of April. It is possible to request consultations by emailing smid@iba.muni.cz.
