Course objectives
The subject will provide the theoretical and practical knowledge of the complex character of the field of transfusion medicine
Theoretical overview of issues related to the field of transfusion medicine, which are closely related to transplantation of tissues, cells and solid organs, care of pregnancy, hemotherapy, hematopoiesis, industrial blood plasma processing, production of blood derivatives and advanced therapy drugs, administration of donors registers
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: - orientate in the legislation for transfusion services, - respect the conditions of good manufacturing practice in transfusion services. - to know the principles of haemovigilance and hemotherapy, - to assess the correctness of the indication and interpretation of immuno-haematological results of the examination, - to recognize the cases where the laboratory examination needs to be extended, - to orientate in the used analytical methods.
Syllabus
  • Theoretical part methodical
  • Laboratory diagnostics (principles of correct laboratory work, systems of internal and external quality control, preanalytical, analytical and postanalytical phase of laboratory diagnostics, group systems of erythrocytes, antibodies, basics of blood group heredity, AB0 group system, development, history of blood group discoveries, current knowledge and possibilities Detection, significance, group system Lewis and secretory status, Rh group system, other group systems of erythrocytes, Antierythrocyte antibodies, distribution, methods of detection, determination of specificity, clinical significance, antigens of leukocytes and thrombocytes, antibody formation and their importance for the clinic, HLA system, importance of HLA antigens and HLA antibodies for the clinic, methods of laboratory diagnostics in HLA, HLA system in relation to transplantology)
  • Good manufacturing practice in transfusion facilities (blood transfusion products, blood derivatives, indications for clinical use, plasma for fractionation, production of transfusion products, work with blood donor registers, assessment of blood donor eligibility, regular blood sampling, apheresis, obligatory laboratory determination, labeling of transfusion products, storage of transfusion products, dispensing and transport of blood transfusion products, quality control, autologous transfusion products)
  • Legislation for Transfusion Services (Transfusion Services Organization in the Czech Republic, State Authorities Supervision System, Processing Centers, Sampling Centers, CR Crisis Blood Policy, Hemovigilance Systems, Medical Laboratory Accreditation, Quality Management Systems)
  • Information systems (laboratory, production, communication, on-line and off-line communications, health reporting, DRG systems)
  • Fundamentals of health and safety at work with biological material, ethics of a health worker
