Course objectives
The aim of the course Nursing Practice II is to prepare students for the provision of comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care for patients with cardiovascular disorders and at the same time for the use of available technical equipment, aids and pharmacological products in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Furthermore, to prepare the student for the implementation of basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Another goal of the internship is to prepare the student for the provision of highly specialized nursing care in anesthesiology and algesiology.
Learning outcomes
Student after completing the course:
knows the principles of highly specialized nursing care for patients with severe cardiovascular disorders and participates in it
knows the basic complementary examinations and can assess them
detects cardiac arrhythmias on the ECG and evaluates them
knows the specifics of oxygen therapy and the principles of its administration and applies it
knows the purpose of special instrumentation and participates in its use
knows the procedure of cardioversion and participates in assistance in the performance and care of the patient
knows the procedure of performing pacing using electrodes placed on the chest and participates in assistance in the performance and care of the patient
knows the procedure for defibrillation of the heart by electric shock and participates in its implementation
knows and participates in the procedure of cardiopulmonary resuscitation
knows the procedure for preparing a sterile table for aseptic procedures and prepares it
knows the reasons and procedures for the introduction and elimination of CRC and participates in assistance in the performance and care of patients
knows and performs the procedure for puncture of the artery
knows the procedure for cannulation of the radial artery, including fixation, decanylation and participates in assistance in the performance and care of the patient
knows the patient's preparation and the procedure for catheterization of the male bladder and catheterizes them
knows the principles of rehabilitation treatment and applies them
knows the technical and material equipment of anesthesiology workplaces

knows the possibilities of caring for his mental health and applies them.

Syllabus
  • The subject Nursing Practice II takes place at clinical workplaces of intensive care, cardiology and cardiac surgery, and also at anesthesiology workplaces.
  • List of services that the student performs during the provision of comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care in cardiology and cardiac surgery and anesthesiology workplaces:
  • handling of linear dispenser, infusion pump, enteral pump, ventilator (stable, portable), heating devices, monitor, pulse oximeter, blood analyzer and other devices in intensive care medicine
  • assessment of laboratory values ​​(basic ionogram, urea, creatinine, blood count, coagulation, cardiac enzymes and others)
  • evaluation of monitored parameters (respiration, BP, P, TT, O2 saturation, ECG) in the conscious patient
  • evaluation of monitored parameters (respiration, BP, P, TT, O2 saturation, EtCO2, ECG) in an unconscious patient
  • ECG trace analysis
  • cardioversion assistance and patient preparation before the procedure, patient care during and after the procedure
  • performing pacing using electrodes placed on the chest (or model)
  • preparation of a sterile table for aseptic procedures
  • preparation of aids and assistance in securing central venous access
  • removal of the central venous catheter
  • male bladder catheterization
  • performing an artery puncture, preparing the patient before the procedure, caring for the patient during and after the procedure
  • radial artery cannulation and fixation, preparation of the patient before the procedure, care of the patient during the procedure and after the procedure
  • education of the patient and loved ones
  • preparation of the anesthesiology workplace before the start of anesthesia
  • preparation of technical equipment for general anesthesia
  • taking the patient to the operating room
  • connection of the patient for monitoring to general anesthesia
  • connection of the patient for monitoring to regional anesthesia
  • assistance in ensuring airway patency of the patient by endotracheal intubation
  • positioning the patient for surgery under general anesthesia
  • positioning the patient for regional anesthesia (epidural, subarachnoid, nerve blocks)
  • patient assistance and monitoring before, during and after general anesthesia
  • patient assistance and monitoring before, during and after regional anesthesia (epidural, subarachnoid, nerve blocks)
  • assistance in the introduction and management of general anesthesia
  • assistance in the introduction and management of regional anesthesia (epidural, subarachnoid, nerve blocks)
