Course objectives
The aim of the course Nursing Practice III is to prepare students for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in intensive care and for the provision of comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care for patients over 10 years of age who have basic vital functions or where such failure occurs.
Learning outcomes
Student after completing the subject:
knows the principles of complex, highly specialized nursing care for patients included in the chronic dialysis program and participates in it;
knows the principles of complex highly specialized nursing care for patients with craniocerebral injury, chronic persistent condition and hemodynamic disorder and participates in its provision;
knows the principles of complex highly specialized nursing care for patients with thermal skin damage, traumatized, polytraumatized and intoxicated patients and participates in its provision;
knows the principles of complex highly specialized nursing care for patients with hemato-oncological diseases and participates in its provision;
knows the principles of complex highly specialized nursing care for patients after drowning, after electric shock and after strangulation and participates in its provision;
knows the principles of complex highly specialized nursing care for patients after vascular operations and participates in its provision;
he orients himself in the problem of sudden critical conditions in children from 10 years of age;
knows the reasons and procedures for introducing central venous catheters, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, operative and dilatation tracheostomy, chest drainage, epicystostomy, lumbar puncture, bronchoscopy, intracranial probe, Swan-Ganz catheter, pericardial puncture and patient care before, during and after performance, participates in these performances and patient care;
knows the procedures of therapeutic normothermia/hypothermia and patient care before, during and after the procedure and participates in the application of this treatment method;
knows the procedure for inserting and verifying gastric and duodenal probes and patient care before, during and after the procedure and knows the procedure for gastric lavage in patients with secured airways and participates in these procedures and patient care;
knows the procedure for introducing implantable subcutaneous ports, patient care before, during and after the procedure and the principles of applying drugs to the ports, applies drugs to the ports;
knows and participates in the care of a patient with an inserted midline and PICC catheter;
knows the ways and possibilities of parenteral and enteral nutrition and their application and applies parenteral and enteral nutrition;
knows laboratory values ​​indicating the patient's nutrition and can assess them;
knows the principles of complex highly specialized nursing care for potential organ donors and participates in its provision, orients himself in the donor and transplant program and the work of the transplant coordinator;
knows patient preparation and chest puncture or drainage procedure and participates in these procedures and patient care;
knows the preparation of the patient and the procedure for gastric lavage in a patient with secured airways and participates in the performance and care of the patient;
he orients himself in the trends of wound healing with moist and vacuum methods and applies them;
knows the specifics of communication with patients who fail basic life functions, with patients on UPV and the principles of communication within a multidisciplinary team and applies them;
knows the principles of hygienic and anti-epidemic work regime and applies them;
knows the possibilities of caring for his mental health and applies them.
Student:
accepts the content of the practice, his role and the role of the members of the multidisciplinary team;
actively participates in all activities within intensive medicine; accepts and follows established rules and procedures;
cooperates with the team;
appreciates the professional and cognitive contribution of practice in intensive care medicine.
Syllabus
  • The course Nursing practice III takes place in anesthesiology-resuscitation departments and in dialysis centers.
  • List of services performed by the student during the provision of complex, highly specialized nursing care:
  • highly specialized nursing care for a patient enrolled in a chronic dialysis program;
  • preparation of the dialysis machine, initiation of blood purification methods, preparation of the patient before the procedure, care of the patient during the procedure and after the procedure, care of the dialysis vascular access;
  • highly specialized nursing care of a patient with craniotrauma;
  • highly specialized nursing care of a patient with a hemodynamic disorder;
  • highly specialized nursing care of a patient with intoxication highly specialized nursing care of patients with trauma, polytrauma;
  • emergency resuscitation of an adult patient (possibly on a model);
  • emergency resuscitation of the child (possibly on the model);
  • ensuring patency of the patient's airways without aids;
  • ensuring patency of the patient's airways using a laryngeal mask (possibly on a model);
  • assistance in ensuring patency of the patient's airways with an endotracheal cannula ensuring patency of the patient's airways with an endotracheal cannula (on the model);
  • ventilation of the patient using a self-expanding breathing bag with a face mask on the model;
  • patient ventilation using a self-expanding breathing bag with a face mask;
  • preparation of a sterile table for aseptic procedures;
  • male bladder catheterization (possibly on a model);
  • suctioning from the respiratory tract with a closed suction system;
  • suctioning from the respiratory tract with an open suction system;
  • changing the position of the endotracheal tube;
  • assistance in patient extubation;
  • gastric lavage in a patient with a secure airway;
  • insertion and verification of a gastric tube in an unconscious patient;
  • preparing the patient for chest puncture or drainage;
  • assistance with puncture or chest drainage, patient care during and after the procedure;
  • preparing the patient for tracheostomy;
  • tracheostomy assistance, patient care during and after the procedure;
  • preparation of aids and assistance in providing central venous access;
  • removal of a central venous catheter;
  • assistance with bronchoscopy and preparation of the patient before the procedure, care of the patient during the procedure and after the procedure;
  • lumbar puncture assistance and patient preparation before the procedure, patient care during and after the procedure;
  • assistance with the introduction of the intracranial sensor and preparation of the patient before the procedure, care of the patient during the procedure and after the procedure;
  • introduction of a gastric tube to a patient with a secured airway and verification of its position in a safe manner, preparation of the patient before the procedure, care during and after the procedure;
  • initiation and management of therapeutic normothermia/hypothermia, preparation of the patient before the procedure, care during and after the procedure;
  • performing an artery puncture, preparing the patient before the procedure, caring for the patient during the procedure and after the procedure;
  • cannulation of the radial artery and its fixation, preparation of the patient before the procedure, care of the patient during and after the procedure;
  • application of enteral nutrition;
  • application of parenteral nutrition;
  • assessment of the patient's nutrition based on laboratory values;
  • highly specialized nursing care for potential organ donors.
