Course objectives
The course Theory and Methodology of Education is dedicated to the development of educational competence to ensure some activities within the profession. It provides students with experience in methods of personal development (free, moral, aesthetic, social areas etc.) in order to be able to live with oneself, with other people and to learn about various life situations, issue, cultures etc. It is based on the theoretical reflection of society-wide phenomena and implies them into pedagogy, the theory of education and the profession of learners.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the learner will be able to - Describe areas of education and relate selected theories to practical examples; - Describe and elaborate on concrete examples of educational concepts related to various dimensions of life situations or areas of human existence; - Propose specific educational strategies for their clients in order to create a positive climate; - Design an A3 educational poster to inform primary and secondary school students about a selected phenomenon related to their profession (for the fields of optometry, nutrition).
Syllabus
  • 1 Introduction to the subject. Influence and importance of education in a globalised world - theory and methodology of moral and global education. 2 Theory and methodology of personal and social education and physical and health education - understanding of self and others, behaviour management, positive (non-injurious) attitudes, cooperation and assistance, healthy lifestyle, linking physical and psychological components of personality. 3 Theory and methodology of media education - strength, power and risks of information media in a world of consumerism, commerce and entertainment. 4 Theory and methodology of aesthetic education - promoting emotional and aesthetic perception and experience of the world. 5 Theory and methodology of environmental education - preserving life and saving the earth's environment. 6 Alternative methods of education. 7 Respectful education (authority, discipline, power in the social group).

Assessment methods
The course will end with a colloquium. The learner presents an A3 educational poster aimed at informing primary and secondary school pupils about a chosen phenomenon related to the profession (for the fields of optometry, nutrition). It will be judged on the basis of formal requirements, graphic design, accuracy and clarity of content and language, appropriateness to the target group, fulfillment of educational objectives. The presentation of the work can be done as an informational exchange with students (teaching assistants).
