Course objectives
The main objectives are as follows: Understanding basic problems in medical psychology, psychosomatic medicine, psychotherapy – biopsychosocial approach towards health and illness. Main psychological terminology. Doctor patient relationship, basic communication skills. Experiencing position of patient, doctor. Meanings of symptoms, approach to illness, illness perception. Understanding Burn-out syndrome, its prevention . Ego defense mechanisms, developmental stages. Psychological approaches in different medical fields. Long term ill and dying patients. Pain and anxiety.
Syllabus
  • Holistic approach towards illness. Relationship between symptom and psychic status. Psychosomatic aspects in psychooncology, gynecology and obstetrics, neonatology, psychiatry, surgery, internal medicine…Doctor patient relationship. Communication styles. Position of patient, illness perception and the meaning of symptoms. Psychotherapy, basic psychotherapeutical approaches. Acute mental crisis intervention. Developmental psychology. Role of psychologist in multidisciplinary medical teams. Psychological approaches in different medical fields. Long term ill and dying patients. Pain and anxiety. Relationship and communication in medical teams.
