The lectures are designed for medical students and students of dentistry in the 3rd - 6th year of study.

Course objectives (in Czech)
The course aims to promote critical thinking, working with information, disinformation, fake news, refuting nonsense, and the ability and willingness to seek rational and scientifically based information in the health field. A sub-objective is to arrange, write and consult an Individual Project.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: - work rationally with information - become aware of their errors in thinking, analysis and interpretation of information - effectively search for texts of scientific articles and evaluate their quality - correctly cite sources - communicate effectively with patients
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • 1. Introduction to critical thinking 2. Evidence Based Medicine 3. Controversial topics in contemporary medicine 4. Searching expert databases and introduction to systematic review methodology 5. Predatory journals and ethical considerations in publishing 6. Psychology of alternative medical directions from the perspective of a quack 7. The psychology of alternative medicine from the perspective of the patient 8. Nutrition, dietary supplements, lifestyle drugs 9. Review and discussion 10. Consultation seminar
Teaching methods (in Czech)
The whole course will be recorded in an interactive curriculum: 1) Preparation for the lesson; 2) Lecture (online); 3) Test after the lesson The home preparation before each lecture (+ task) is mandatory; lectures are on-line, inserted gradually every week; test is ROPOT in IS (5 questions)
Assessment methods (in Czech)
The student must complete: - a test after the lecture (100% = 5 points from 5) - the test can be repeatedly answered - write and submit a short review on the chosen topic (1-2 pages A4)
