Cíle předmětu
Subject is complementary to Medical Chemistry, Dental Materials - lecture (aZLLC011p). Students become familiar with the background and equipment of chemical laboratory. They will learn to perform simple laboratory operations. During experiments, students verify some findings discussed in theoretical lessons.
Výstupy z učení
Student will demonstrate understanding
  • relationship between the composition of different solutions, beverages and body fluids and their pH value.
  • will be able to describe the general composition and role of the buffers, explain their function and apply this knowledge in explaining the role of buffering systems in the organism.
  • to describe the essence of the formation of insoluble and poorly soluble compounds.
  • to identify factors that can influence the insolubility of compounds and to apply this knowledge when discussing the effect of mineralization of dental tissue.
Students will be able to handle with basal laboratory equipment and follow proper procedures and regulations for safe handling, use, and disposal of chemicals.
  • Osnova
    • Directions for laboratory work, safety guidelines for handling dangerous substances.
    • Volumetric ware in chemical laboratory. Manual pipetting.
    • Preparation of solution with given concentration. Photometric verification of concentration.
    • Measuring pH of solutions of acids, bases and salts. Measuring pH of various beverages and saliva.
    • Preparation of phosphate buffers with different values of pH
    • Determination of buffer capacity.
    • Properties and reactions of phosphate anions. Detection of phosphates after demineralization of bone tissue.
    • Detection of selected ions in saliva.
    • Corrosive properties of dental alloys.
