Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize the student with the facilities and equipment of a chemical laboratory, to teach him to perform simple laboratory operations.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to
- manipulate basic laboratory equipment and observe the principles of safe work in the laboratory
- prepare a solution of a given concentration
- measure the pH of a solution
- prepare the buffer solution
- describe the nature of the formation of insoluble and sparingly soluble compounds
Syllabus
  • Directions for laboratory work, safety guidelines for handling dangerous substances.
  • Instruments and vessels used for measuring liquids.
  • Handling pipettes and pipetting.
  • Preparation of solutions of  given concentration, verification of concentration.
  • Measurement of pH of solutions of acids, bases and salts.
  • Preparation of phosphate buffers and determination of buffering capacity.
  • Properties and reactions of phosphate anions.
  • Determination of phosphate after demineralization of bone tissue.
  • Detection of selected ions in saliva.
  • Corrosive properties of dental alloys.
