Course objectives
Pharmacology is a scientific discipline that deals with the study of the effects of substances on the organism. It studies the action of substances administered to affect physiological systems and pathological conditions. It evaluates drugs from two points of view. Pharmacodynamics studies the effects of drugs and their mechanisms depending on the dose and route of entry into the body. Pharmacokinetics examines the fate of a drug in the body, i.e. absorption, distribution in individual tissues, conversion to effective and/or ineffective substances and excretion. Pharmacology examines a drug from the moment it is administered to the patient, when it becomes a drug, to its complete elimination. In the seminar, the student will consolidate the basics of pharmacology. This subject is closely related to the subject of the basics of pharmacology.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to clarify the basic general laws of the fate of drugs in the body and the mechanisms of the effect of drugs on the body. It can also define and characterize the basic properties of drugs – mechanisms of action, pharmacological effects, pharmacokinetic properties, adverse effects and interactions. The student will be able to apply the acquired knowledge about the properties of medicines to related natural science fields.
