Course objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to gain practical knowledge of basic molecular-biological methods used in pharmacogenomics and pharmacogenetics (DNA isolation, PCR method, restriction cleavage, agarose gel electrophoresis, etc.).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to identify and summarize important features of the main methods used in pharmacogenomics and pharmacogenetics. Will be able to practically perform basic molecular-biological analyses and interpret the obtained results.
Syllabus
  • General overview of topics:
    1. Isolation of genomic DNA
    2. Characterization of DNA, determination of its concentration and purity by spectrophotometry
    3. Nucleic acid electrophoresis in agarose gel
    4. Genotype determination by PCR, PCR-REA, multiplex PCR, real-time PCR, allele-specific PCR
    5. Consultations, submission of protocols
    6. Final test

DNA isolation, determination of CCR5 genotype by PCR
Electrophoresis of CCR5 amplicones, determination of ICAM-1 genotype by PCR-REA
