Course objectives
Course builds on the lesson Paleolithic in Middle Europe. Course should expand knowledges and create awarness of main tends of paleolithic industries, natural environment, anthropological types, economy, transcendental ideas and social structures. Lesson consists of two parts: first part deepens methodological introduction of the studies of preserved residential structures, paleolithic industries and the questions of interpretation their variability, second part gives a view of paleolithic based on certain macroregions.
Syllabus
  • 1. The history of knowledge European paleolithic. 2. Modern trends in archaeology and their aplication on paleolithic and mezolitic. 3. Production technology. 4. Typology repetition, an impact of used material, using of computing techique. 5. Early and Old Paleolithic. 6. Middle Paleolithic 7. The beginning of Young Paleolithic and spread of Homo s. Sapiens. 8. Transitional type industries: bohunicien, chatelperronien, ulluzien, szeletien and their bearers. 9. Middle phase of Young Paleolithic: natural environment, hunting techniques, various aspects of mammoth hunting. 10. Reaction on climate changes- epiaurignacien, apigravettien, solutréen. 11. Retreat of glaciers, ecology and economy- reindeer and horse hunting, badegoulien and magdalenien genesis. 12. Late Paleolithic- main types of industries. 13. Natural environment of the beginning of holocene and diversity of mesolitic adaptations.
