Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Christian ideology, historical evolution of the Church and changes in its organisational structure, general orientation in the building-historical, artistic and religious material culture and also in the historical geography of Europe and the Near East.

Course objectives
Students will be familiarized with individual medieval ecclesiastical orders (especially Catholic Christianity, including chivalric orders) and their most important building production. Focus will be laid on monastic (and religious) buildings, fortifications, as well as economic and operational structures. Special attention will be paid to ruined and defunct buildings that have undergone archaeological and other research.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- formulate the knowledge acquired by study and to put the results of this study into a wider historical context;
- compare scholarly opinions about the subject of medieval ecclesiastical orders and their constructions;
- introduce the selected topic of ecclesiastical orders and their edifices to colleagues in the form of a presentation.

Assessment methods
Colloquium - elaboration of a brief paper on a selected topic will be supplemented with questions to test the basic overview. Rating passed/failed.
