  • This course explores contemporary trends in American short fiction. The emphasis will be on a close reading of an eclectic group of stories. Students should be prepared to discuss both structural and thematic aspects of each story. The instructor will draw on her experience as fiction editor of "The Kenyon Review" -- one of the older and better-known literary magazines in the United States -- to assemble a reading list that represents the most recent trends emerging in American short fiction. Students can expect to write short critiques of the works being discussed.
