Cíle předmětu
This semester's course will consider aspects of the work of prominent seventeenth century poets, including Ben Jonson, John Donne, George Herbert, John Milton, and Andrew Marvell. The course will also examine aspects of historical, political, and intellectual developments as well as intimate and family relations in the period covered. Students completing the course will have negotiated these areas and have produced an essay of appropriate length analysing relevant aspects of those areas considered, in relation to the poetry considered, the social, historical and political aspects of the period, or a combination of these elements.
Výstupy z učení
Students completing the course will have gained a better knowledge of the cultural element involved in some of the most intimate aspects of human life, as, in this case, presented through poetry of the period as well as an historical analysis of pertinent trends in that period.
