Course objectives
Note: Students who have taken the course AJ12056 may not take this course. The seminar combines the practice of translation with theoretical linguistic analysis based on the compari-son of an English text with its Czech translation. Each week students will translate a passage of text (fiction only: K. Amis, E. Waugh, J. Kerouac, J.D. Salinger, J. Joyce). Their transla-tions will then be analyzed and compared with published translations of the text. The text analysis will be made against the theoretical linguistic background. The range of the topics dealt with will cover grammatical, semantic, pragmatic, and stylistic aspects. Prerequisite: Introduction to Translation (AJ19000).
