Course objectives
The focus of recent linguistic research is on spoken language. One aspect of spoken language which has attracted much attention is intonation. The meaning of intonation has been studied extensively and a number of different prosodic transcription systems have been developed for the description of intonation. The course looks into some problems of the interpretation of intonation and provides training in the prosodic transcription of recorded speech.
Syllabus
