Course objectives
During the last thirty years the reputation of Thomas Hardy as both poet and novelist has grown significantly.While focusing primarily on his later novels we will consider both aspects of his work and the reasons for his increasing popularity. The novels we shall look at are The Return of The Native, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Jude The Obscure and Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Prospective participants for the course should note that they will be expected to provide themselves with copies of the first three of these novels which are avilable from most major booksellers in cheap editions.
Syllabus
