Cíle předmětu
The course will consider developments in twentieth century British novels and in related aspects of psychoanalytic, political and cultural theory. Participants may read only the novels, only the theory or both, but not neither. Novels considered will include Joyce's 'Ulysses',D.H. Lawrence's 'Women in Love', Virginia Woolf's 'To the Lighthouse', George Orwell's 1984, Ian McEwan's 'The Child in Time and Pat Barker's 'Regeneration'. Theory will include aspects of the writing of Jacques Lacan, Julia Kristeva, Slavoj Zizek, Frederic Jameson, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari,Juergen Habermas,and Alain Badiou.Assessment by essay (50%) and class contribution (50%)
