Syllabus
  • This course is a survey of southern literature from colonial times to the present. Using traditional Native American stories, African American music, slave narratives, short stories, novels, poetry, essays, and documentaries, we will examine the development of southern literature in relation to historical events and cultural contexts. Readings will include works by Kate Chopin, William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, Katherine Anne Porter, and Jean Toomer.
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Seminar. Assessment: Students will keep a reading journal, give an oral presentation, and write a research paper.
