Course objectives
The course is modelled on the University of Cambridge/Royal Society of Arts course for CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults), the internationally recognized basic qualification for teaching English. The course includes 78 periods of input seminars and 78 periods of teaching practice (i.e. teaching, observation and feedback discussions). The course starts with an intensive week (one week before the semester) and it continues for 13 weeks with one morning of input and one afternoon of teaching practice. A vital part of the course is one-week placement (block teaching practice) in a local school.. Prerequisites: Comprehensive exam in the Department of English and American Studies (including a pass for the oral interview of the English proficiency exam). Recommended courses: Psychologie pro učitele, Obecná pedagogika, Obecná didaktika. - general principles of teaching and learning a foreign language;
- teaching and learning the language systems of grammar, functions, vocabulary and pronunciation;
- teaching and learning the skills of listening, speaking, writing and reading;
- classroom management;
- classroom techniques;
- error analysis and correction;
- learner assessment;
- lesson and course planning;
- classroom aids and equipment;
- the ELT learner.
