Course objectives
This course is designed to give students from various stages in the program an opportunity to meet as one group and present their work-in-progress to one another and interested faculty. Thus it facilitates a supportive network that promotes each student’s overall well-being and academic success. Students in their first and second semester are strongly encouraged to attend. Students in their third and fourth semester are required to attend and actively participate in the peer-review process. Students in their fifth and sixth semester who are taking Dissertation Prospectus and Dissertation Colloquium have priority in terms of giving presentations.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to identifiy the main methodological principles related to their doctoral research, present their latest research and get critical feedback from both their peers and academic staff.
Syllabus
  • This course meets every other Friday, every semester. It is designed to give students from various stages in the program an opportunity to meet as one group and present their work-in-progress to one another and interested faculty. Thus it facilitates a supportive network that promotes each student’s overall well-being and academic success. Students in their first and second semester are strongly encouraged to attend. Students in their third and fourth semester are required to attend and actively participate in the peer-review process.

  • Research Methods for English Studies, Gabriele Griffin, Edinburgh University Press, 2005.
  • Due to the specific nature of each research project, no other formal literature is required.
  • Principles of Methodology: Research Design in Social Science by Perri 6 &Christine Bellamy, Sage, 2012.

1 & 2 term students - attendance 3 & 4 term students – regular feedback (written to a previously posted text by the student presenting, submitted via googledocs and later presented in person) 5 & 6 term students - feedback and/or presentation
