Course objectives
The aim of this subject is to encourage students to undertake research over an extensive period of time abroad, preferably at a university whose experts, or principal lines of research undertaken there, promise to enhance the students' grasp of their projects and to positively impact their writing.
Learning outcomes
A student's stay at a foreign university will demonstrate his or her capability of undertaking research in an international academic environment. It is an ivaluable way of gaining new professional insights, a much needed international awareness and knowledge of the state of the discipline abroad. Likewise, a stay abroad gives the students an opportunity to gain feedback from international experts as well as from their peers; it represents a unique opportunity for networking. All these factors will positively impact the process of dissertation writing.
Syllabus
  • Discussion of the envisaged stay abroad with the supervisor
  • Selection of a suitable destination
  • Contacting the international partners
  • Application for a travel grant / fellowship
  • Stay abroad; while abroad the supervisee is expected to stay in touch with the supervisor
  • Upon return form the stay abroad a written report is submitted to the supervisor
Literature
  • Due to the specific nature of the subject no mandatory reading is required.
Teaching methods
Independent research, consulations with experts in foreign (partner) universities.
Assessment methods
Upon successful copletion of the stay abroad the student submits a report to the supervisor, who grants credits to the student.
